DANGEROUS TO WEAR
A group exhibition of jewelry.
Why do people wear things? What does it do for them in that moment, how does it make them feel? Are they more secure, sexy, is their self identity stronger? What does it say about what they are doing? Their position in relation to the rest. Does the piece do it for them? A signifier, strong but elusive enough to message some intangible about who they are.
How does wearing something change you? Does it change you?
How does context fit in? What happens when this is worn here or there, is there a difference?
What are your cultural cues and for whom?
With all this in mind Cruz invites a group of artists to make jewelry( loosely defined) that explores the simple concept of DANGEROUS TO WEAR.
Beyond the immediate but also effective idea of physical danger, what else would make something dangerous and in which context?
Who is this piece made for? Consider the wearer. Consider the viewer. Consider the maker. The exhibition will open at Cruz Gallery in the front Micro Gallery on December 19 2008.
Cruz is a small Fine Art and Jewelry gallery known for having fun, innovative and provocative shows in the heart of Santa Fes Canyon road.
